About me

Alfonso R Reyes is a Petroleum Engineering Data Scientist. Currently serves as Chief Data Scientist at his own company Oil Gains Analytics based in The Woodlands, Texas. He worked as a Production Technologist with Petronas Carigali, based in Kuala Lumpur as responsible for managing network modeling applications for the Production Enhancement line. He has worked in the upstream areas of petroleum engineering in technology deployment, project management and business development positions.

Prior to joining Petronas, Alfonso worked in the areas of production optimization, nodal analysis and ESP software applications for oil and gas wells with the company IHS based in Denver, Colorado. Previous assignments have been in areas of intelligent wells, smart-well completions, unconventional oil, production engineering, and well and reservoir surveillance for Shell, Halliburton, WellDynamics, and Optimization Petroleum Technologies, OPT, all based in Houston, Texas.

Alfonso has traveled and worked extensively in Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Malaysia, United States, and ten other countries around the world. Alfonso earned a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the National University of Engineering (UNI) in Lima, Peru; he is a passionate of computational physics, digital electronics and history. He has performed studies at various technology institutions including courses on Lasers and Fiberoptics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has published technical papers at SPE, IADC, PennWell and other international conferences.
